Few pests create as much discomfort, or pose as many health risks, as cockroaches. Known for their resilience and rapid reproduction, roaches thrive in warm, humid environments like kitchens, bathrooms, and basements. As they forage, they contaminate food and surfaces with bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli, while their shed skins and droppings can trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children. Beyond the health hazards, heavy infestations leave behind foul odors, stains, and damage to books, cardboard, and fabrics. At LONESTAR Pest Solutions, our comprehensive roach control service targets infestations at their source through precise inspections, proven treatments, and preventive measures, restoring cleanliness and peace of mind to your property.

Different roach species require specific solutions. Here are some of the common types of roaches we often find in our surroundings.

Small, light brown, and very fast, German cockroaches are among the most common household pests. They thrive in kitchens and bathrooms where food and moisture are easily accessible. Known for reproducing rapidly, even a small infestation can quickly grow out of control if not treated early.

When does it typically reproduce? Year-round indoors; females carry egg cases and produce dozens of offspring per cycle.
What is it attracted to? Food crumbs, grease, and moisture.

Large and reddish-brown, American cockroaches are often found in basements, drains, sewer systems, and commercial buildings. They are strong fliers and can travel long distances in search of food. Their droppings and shed skin can contaminate surfaces and spread bacteria, posing serious health risks.
Size, Color: 1½–2 inches long; reddish-brown with a yellow band behind the head.
Identifying Characteristics: Long wings, fast runners and flyers, with a glossy body.
Where does it nest/hide? Basements, crawl spaces, utility rooms, and near plumbing or drains.

What is it attracted to? Decaying matter, garbage, and food residues.

Dark, shiny, and slower-moving than other species, Oriental cockroaches prefer damp and cool environments such as crawl spaces, drains, and basements. They are sometimes called “water bugs” because of their attraction to moisture. These roaches are notorious for carrying foul odors and spreading filth.
Size, Color: About 1 inch long; shiny dark brown or black.
Identifying Characteristics: Broad, glossy body; males have short wings, females wingless.
Where does it nest/hide? Basements, drains, crawl spaces, and under wet debris.
When does it typically reproduce? Spring to summer; females deposit egg cases in moist areas.
What is it attracted to? Moisture, decaying organic matter, and garbage.

Unlike other species that prefer moisture, brown-banded cockroaches thrive in dry, warm areas. They often hide in higher locations like cabinets, closets, or behind picture frames. Their presence can worsen allergies and asthma, especially in sensitive individuals.
Size, Color: About ½ inch long; light brown with two pale bands across the wings.
Identifying Characteristics: Small and slender; often found in electronics, furniture, and wall hangings.
Where does it nest/hide? Cabinets, closets, ceilings, and behind picture frames.

What is it attracted to? Warmth, dry air, and starchy materials like paper and glue.

Dark brown to black in color, smokybrown cockroaches are commonly found outdoors in woodpiles, trees, and gutters but will invade homes in search of food and water. They are strong fliers and often enter through open windows, vents, or poorly sealed doors, making them a persistent nuisance.

Lonestar does our quarterly pest control and we had to call for re-spray of our kitchen due to these 100 plus degree temperature days. They sent Eddie over right away and he was so helpful telling me to pick up dog food every day, plug drains daily, use vinegar solution for drains, and make sure they always spray an area of the custom cabinets that has a gap between the cabinets and wall. He was the best! Really educated me and was so patient and even funny as I stared wide eyed over his knowledge of all things cockroaches.

Have used Lonestar for years for normal treatments inside and outside, but just recently used them for mosquito control prior to an outdoor graduation pool party. EXCELLENT RESULTS AND PHENOMENAL SERVICE! We had them do a general area fogging and then leave-behind portable remote controlled area “mister” — we haven’t seen a mosquito in two weeks!

We have used Richard’s team for years. Recently we learned our neighbor’s had termites. We contacted Lone Star to learn about our options. The solution provided was better than solutions our neighbors suggested. In fact, we learned of several pitfalls that our neighbors might encounter (beyond higher cost over the long term).
