SILVERFISHES
The Silverfish Bug, also known as Lepisma saccharina, is a small insect without wings. Its name, silverfish, comes from its silvery color and the fact that resembles a fish. Silverfish bugs are found throughout the world including parts of North America, Australia, Asia, and Europe.

What do they look like?
Size: approximately a 1/2 inch in length. Its long, lean body is broader in the front and narrows toward the rear which contributes to its fish-like appearance and movement.

What does it eat?
Silverfish feed on a variety of materials, many of which can be found in your home. They are attracted to carbohydrates, starches and sugars which can be found not only in your kitchen but in the glues on stamps, envelopes and even book bindings.
Where does it hide?
Silverfish prefer dark, moist environments such as basements, kitchens, and bathrooms. They can also hide in bookcases and closets and around baseboards, wallpaper, windows and door frames.
What can it do to me?
Silverfish are not directly harmful to humans, but they can definitely cause their fair share of damage in your home. Silverfish are attracted to the glue in book bindings, wall paper and other paper goods. They are notorious for chewing holes in fabrics and paper to get to the paste, leaving yellowish stains along the way.
